Course Requirements:
•8 and 16 Hours Security Guard Certificate of Completion
•Must have a clean police record, no felons)
•Must have a valid NYC or NYS Pistol Permit
This is a 47 hour course required by New York State Division of Criminal Justice Service as the first step in obtaining a special armed guard registration card from the New York State Department of State. To attend the course students must possess a valid pistol license and a valid NYS security guard registration card.
The course consists of 7 hours of NYS Penal Law Article 35 (Use of Force/Deadly Physical Force) and 40 hours of range instruction and qualification. To successfully complete the course the student must pass a written examination and qualify with a handgun.
This Course covers the Following Topics
>List and define the four (4) Basic Rules of Safety
>Recognize circumstances which generally justify the use of physical force
>Demonstrate the method of holding a handgun with the trigger finger off the trigger
>Justification for the use of physical force in defense of premises and in defense of a person in the course of a robbery
>Identify the use of verbal commands, when appropriate, to order and/or warn person(s)
>Recognize circumstances which justify use of physical force to prevent or terminate larceny or criminal mischief
>Recognize circumstances which justify a security guard’s use of physical force in making an arrest or preventing an escape
>Demonstrate different pistol shooting positions
>Recognize those factors to be considered appropriate to draw a weapon
>Recognize circumstances to be considered when discharging a firearm at a person
>Describe the procedure to inspect and clean soft body armor
Note: At the conclusion of training, students will have fired at least 2 qualifying rounds of 70% (175 out of a possible 250 with duty type handguns to successfully complete the Range & Qualification component of training.
