This course addresses issues of building operation, maintenance and recordkeeping for Fire Safety Directors. Subject matter areas include the periodic inspection, testing, servicing and recordkeeping for sprinkler and standpipe systems, fire alarm systems, commercial cooking systems, emergency power systems, elevator in readiness, smoke control systems, portable fire extinguishers and hot work operations.

The course is intended to explain the importance of the periodic inspection, testing and other maintenance of building life safety and fire protection systems, and familiarize the participants with the periodic inspection, testing and other maintenance requirements set forth in National Fire Protection Association standards which have been incorporated into the Fire Code.

The course addresses operational and maintenance requirements for commercial cooking systems, elevator in readiness, smoke control systems, non-water fire extinguisher systems, means of egress, refrigerating systems, hot work operations, flame-resistant decorations and emergency planning and preparedness. The course also provides instruction on the daily, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual visual inspection and testing requirements for sprinkler, standpipe, fire alarm, emergency power and non-water fire extinguisher systems.

This course meet the necessary education requirements of New York City Fire Department continuing education certification for license renewal for the Fire life and Safety Director.
