The 1-Hour Handling Heavy Materials and Proper Lifting Techniques course is designed to help construction and trade workers prevent injuries caused by improper lifting and material handling practices. Musculoskeletal disorders and back injuries are among the most common workplace incidents, and this training provides practical strategies to reduce strain and work more safely.
Participants will learn safe lifting techniques, how to assess loads before moving them, and how to use mechanical aids to reduce physical effort. The course also covers ergonomic principles, proper posture, and team lifting coordination to ensure workplace safety. This training aligns with OSHA guidelines and NYC Department of Buildings requirements for Site Safety Training (SST).
This course covers the following topics:
• Use proper lifting techniques to avoid back and muscle injuries.
• Utilize mechanical lifting devices when appropriate.
• Work with team members to coordinate multi-person lifts.
• Store materials safely to prevent tripping or falling hazards.
• Report unsafe material handling conditions to supervisors.
• Follow OSHA and NYC DOB safety standards for manual handling.
This course counts as 1 Hour of General Elective credit toward your Site Safety Training (SST) card and is valid for 5 years from completion unless otherwise specified by the New York City Buildings Department.
