Course Code: CO
This course is an extensive program that trains and prepares students for the New York State Licensure in Cosmetology. Students will then be able to obtain employment in their desired area(s) of the beauty field. Upon completion of training the student will be certified by the State Education Department and qualified for the Licensed Cosmetologist Examination required by the New York State Division of Licensing Services.
Cosmetologists offer beauty services, such as shampooing, cutting, coloring, and styling hair. They may advise clients on how to care for their hair, how to straighten their hair or give it a permanent wave, or how to lighten or darken their hair color.
A growing number actively sell hair care products and other cosmetic supplies. Barbers, cosmetologists, and other personal appearance workers who operate their own salons have managerial duties that may include hiring, supervising, and firing workers, as well as keeping business and inventory records, ordering supplies, and arranging for advertising. Cosmetologists should enjoy working with the public and be willing and able to follow clients’ instructions. Communication, image, and attitude play an important role in career success.
