Mandatory Continuing Education Course
A2L Refrigerants: Safety, Compliance, and FDNY Requirements (Q-01 / Q-99)

This 7-hour continuing education program is required for all holders of the Q-01 or Q-99 Certificate of Qualification (COQ) in Refrigeration who are seeking license renewal in New York City, effective July 1, 2025. The course provides a comprehensive overview of A2L refrigerants, including their chemical properties, classification, safety protocols, handling procedures, and applicable regulatory standards. Participants will also gain an understanding of the environmental impact of A2L refrigerants, as well as installation requirements, servicing practices, and code compliance essentials.

Emphasis is placed on hazard mitigation, safe workplace practices, and regulatory updates that directly affect Refrigerating System Operating Engineers (RSOEs). Students will also learn about global warming potential, environmental benefits of A2L refrigerants, and risk-reduction strategies in day-to-day operations. Successful completion of a final assessment with a minimum passing score of 70% is required in order to earn a Certificate of Completion, which is mandatory for Q-01/Q-99 license renewal. Graduates of this course will be fully prepared to work safely, efficiently, and in compliance with New York City’s updated requirements.
