Special Education Services

At the International Development Institute, we are committed to providing equal opportunities for all learners, including individuals with disabilities, social, emotional, or behavioral challenges, and those with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. We provide reasonable accommodations to ensure that every student can participate fully in our programs.

We partner with Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) to expand and strengthen our services. IDI offers Specialized Training Programs designed to support students with special needs in the following areas:

  • Postsecondary Transition Opportunities: Assisting students in moving from high school to the next stage of life, including technical career education.
  • Career Development: Preparing students for the workplace through career planning, résumé and cover letter preparation, interview techniques, leadership, networking, and job retention skills.
  • Academic Support: Helping students strengthen skills in reading, writing, and mathematics to build a solid academic foundation.
  • Small Group Instruction: Providing personalized instruction in groups of six to eight students, ensuring greater focus on learning and skill development.
  • Extended Testing Time: Offering additional time to complete assignments, projects, and exams, ranging from 30% (time and a half) to 90% (triple time). For example, a 60-minute exam may be extended to 90–180 minutes.
  • Job Placement Assistance: Connecting graduates with job opportunities aligned to their training and career goals.

Our goal is to ensure that every student, regardless of background or ability, has the tools and support needed to succeed academically, professionally, and personally.

Dual Program Option

For students who do not yet have a high school diploma or GED, IDI offers a Dual Program that combines GED preparation with a Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. This unique opportunity allows students to work toward earning their high school equivalency while gaining valuable career skills.
