Our Home Health Aide training programs of study prepare students to work safely in the homecare setting under the supervision of licensed healthcare providers. Home Health Aides play an integral role on the healthcare team in homecare settings. They perform non-medical services and supports for clients who need help with basic daily activities and physical care, or require assistance with shopping, cooking, or paying bills. They may assist in the safe and effective care of clients under the direct supervision of licensed professional nurses. Care may be provided to the elderly, individuals with physical or developmental disabilities, and those with rehabilitation needs. The duties of home health aides vary based on the type of homecare setting and individual client needs.
IDI has been offering home health aide training programs for over 28 years, and we know how important of this program for the community receiving services. Home Health Aides provide critical and very important care to different patients at home who in many cases are unable to care for themselves. Assistants act as a bridge to independent living for many elderlies, physically challenged to individuals who may also need assistance with activities of daily living.
In this course the student will learn how to provide personal care, work within plan of care, and provide support to individual and family. all the necessary techniques and knowledge to provide assistance to these patients.
A Home Health Aide’s duty may include:
* Assist clients in their daily personal tasks * Assisting the patient in an out of bed * Transferring to or from a wheelchair * Takes and records patient’s vital signs * Oral hygiene
* Turning and positioning patients * Provide a bed bath or shower * Helping with using the toilet * Assistance with ostomy appliances
* Measuring patient’s weight * Preparation of the prescribed diet for the patient * Accompany the patient to medical appointments
* And more
Most home health aides’ work with elderly or disabled persons who need more extensive care than family or friends can provide. Some help discharged hospital patients who have relatively short-term needs. In home healthcare agencies, a registered nurse, physical therapist, or social worker usually assigns specific duties and supervises home health aides. Aides keep records of services performed and patients’ condition and progress. They report changes in patients’ conditions to the supervisor or case manager.
At the completion of this program, home health aide work in a variety of settings, including: Home Care Agencies, clients’ homes, group homes, private cases and adult day care centers.
