International Development Institute requires students to maintain regular and consistent attendance in order to successfully complete their program of study. Attendance is an essential component of student learning and is required to ensure that students acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for their chosen field. Records of attendance are maintained as part of each student’s permanent academic record.
Minimum Attendance Requirement
Students are required to maintain a minimum attendance rate of eighty-five percent (85%) unless otherwise specified by program requirements. Regular and prompt attendance is the responsibility of each student. Absence from class does not excuse a student from any missed work. Students are responsible for completing all assignments, examinations, and coursework as scheduled.
Program-Specific Attendance Requirements
Certain programs require a higher attendance standard, including up to one hundred percent (100%) attendance, as mandated by regulatory agencies or program requirements.
The following programs require 100% attendance for successful completion:
- Air Pollution Control
- Basic Electricity
- Basic Plumbing
- Boiler Operator
- Building Maintenance Code
- Building Maintenance Technician
- Building Operation Maintenance and Record Keeping
- Notary Public
- Fire Safety Director
- Real Estate Salesperson
- Real Estate Broker
The following security training courses also require 100% attendance:

- 8-Hour In-Service Training Course for Security Guard
- 47-Hour Armed Security Guard Training Course

Absences
Students are responsible for attending all scheduled classes. Absences may negatively impact academic progress and the ability to complete the program. Students are encouraged to notify the school in advance when possible.
Tardiness
Students are expected to arrive on time for all scheduled classes. Repeated tardiness may be recorded and may be considered partial or full absences in accordance with school policy.
Make-Up Work and Examinations
Students are responsible for taking all scheduled examinations and completing all assignments on time. Make-up work or examinations may be permitted at the discretion of the school director and are not guaranteed. Approval is determined on a case-by-case basis in accordance with program requirements.
Leave of Absence
Students enrolled in programs of less than six (6) weeks in duration will not be granted a leave of absence except in cases of documented serious medical emergencies. For programs longer than six (6) weeks, students requesting a leave of absence must submit a request to the school director for approval. Requests should be made within thirty (30) days of the emergency. Approved leaves of absence may affect program completion timelines.
Course Completion Requirement
Students must complete at least ninety-five percent (95%) of the required coursework in order to successfully complete a program, unless otherwise specified by program requirements.
Failure to Meet Attendance Requirements
Students who fail to meet attendance requirements may be subject to academic probation, suspension, or termination from the program. Failure to meet attendance standards may also result in the inability to successfully complete the program.
Break Periods
Break periods are scheduled in accordance with school policy. Day-long programs include a one-hour lunch break. Programs of several hours include scheduled fifteen (15) minute break periods. Break periods are not counted as part of instructional time, and students are expected to return promptly to class.
Attendance Records
Attendance records are maintained as part of the student’s permanent academic file and may be reviewed by regulatory agencies as required.
